Blue Berry Muffin

E agora temos um dos grandes icones do capitalismo: StarBucks.

E tive que ir lá provar o "blue berry muffin" - Sou viciado em blue berry (aqui conhecido como mirtilo)! Na minha última viagem aos US eu trouxe muitos doces de blue berry - e ver se o gosto é igual ao original.

Tenho que ser honesto, não é tão bom quanto o 'original' (graças a Deus assim não arruína minha dieta) mas é gostoso. A melhor parte foi o Frappucino! De verdade, eu tentei muitos iced coffe/cappucinos e nenhum estava bom mas agora eu tenho onde ir quando a vontade bater =)

Eu recomendo

A propósito, algo muito legal no caso dessa loja é o fato de ela ficar ao lado de uma livraria gigante formando um ambiente incrível!

And I had to go there and try the "blue berry muffin" - I'm addicted to blue berry! In my last trip to US I brought lots and lots of blue berry candies - and 'see' if the taste is the same of the original.

I have to be honest, that's not so good as the 'original' (thanks God as this would ruin my diet) but it's nice. The best part was the Frappuccino! Seriously, I tried lots of iced coffe/cappucinos and no one was good enough but now I have a place to go =)

I do recommend.

By the way, something nice in this particular store is the fact that it's placed side-by-side with a huge book store in a wonderful environment!

(Não vou falar da Bloomin´Onion (cebola frita)! Mas você deve experimentar!!)
Outro restaurante internacional que temos em Sampa.

Outback é uma opção muito interessante com sabores um pouco diferentes dos que temos no Brasil. Picante e doce estão sempre presentes nas preparações.. e eu adoro isso =)

Também pouco comum a opção do refil - Você compra um refrigerante (uns R$4,50) e pode pedir para encher seu copo quantas vezes quiser. Agora calma, isso só funciona para bebidas sem álcool, cerveja você tem que pagar por cada caneca que você pedir :-)

Another international restaurant that we have in Sao Paulo.

Outback is a very intersting option with a very different flavor than the usual that we have in Brasil. The spicy and sweet are always present in their preparation ... and I really love this =)

Also unusual is the "refill" option - You buy a glass of soda (around US$2,50) and you may ask to refill your glass how many times you want. Calm down, this just 'works' for soft drinks, beer you will have to pay each mug you order ;-)

Incrível! Depois de muito procurar achei essa delícia gelada perto de casa.

Esse picolé coreano é diferente, muito cremoso e saboroso que nem encontro palavras para descrever direito.

Claro, o melhor picolé do muuuundo é o de limão mas o de melão verde é com certeza o segundo... talvez seja um empate em primeiro lugar... ;-)


Amazing! After some time searching for this increadible frozen delight I found it near to my house.

This korean ice pop is diferent, so creammy and tasteful that I can't find words to describe it better.

Of course, the best ice pop in the entire world is the lime one but the green melon is surely the second one... maybe it's a tie on the first place..... ;-)

Se você olhar nos posts mais antigos (no blog velho) você verá que as fotos estão muito melhores agora.

Eu joguei fora meu velho Nokia 6225 e comprei um novo Ericsson K550i com tecnologia Cybershot. Muito melhor que o anterior, tem lá seus problemas, mas é um telefone legal =)

So I dumped my old Nokia 6120 and bought a brand new Sony Ericsson K550i with Cybershot technology. Way better than the previous one, has some problems, but it's a nice phone

Football and Ham Sandwich

Essa quarta rolou um incrível jogo (ok, o jogo foi ruim) da Copa Libertadores de América. O São Paulo ganhou por 2 a 1 do Audax Italiano.

Claro que esse não é um "blog de esportes" e a parte importante aqui é: O incrível lanche de pernil! Um dia no estádio sem lanche de pernil não é um dia no estádio completo.

Eu sei que a higiene não é o forte tampouco o valor nutricional mas o gosto é tão bom que eu não posso viver sem ele :) . Se você olhar na imagem abaixo você verá o pernil do lado direito (note que pelo tamanho deve durar uns 5 jogos) e os pedaços sendo esquentados no centro. Algumas barracas tem uns molos especiais que entram no preparo nesse ponto, depois é só por tudo dentro do pão e comer.

R$5,00 livre de impostos por uma das mais populares "comidas de estádio", comprado na barraquinha na rua e comido celebrando (ou reclamando) outro jogo de futebol.

This Wednesday we had an amazing game (ok, the game was not good in fact) in the Copa Libertadores de América. Sao Paulo won for 2 to 1 against the Audax Italiano.

Of course this is not a "sports blog" and the important part here is: The amazing ham sandwich! A day at stadium without a ham sandwich is not a complete day at stadium.

I know the hygiene is not the strong point of this food neither the nutritional details but it tastes so good that I cannot live without it :) . If look on the first image you'll see the ham on the right side (you may notice that, considering the size, this ham may last for 5 games or so) and the sliced ham being warmed in the center. Some people put a "special sauce" at this point in preparation, them all you have to do is put everything inside the bread and eat!

US$3 free of taxes, for one of the most popular "stadium foods", bought on tents in the street and ate celebrating (or complaining) another football game.

Esse eu comi no Mega Burger em São Bernardo. Não é muito convencional, tem creme de milho e um molho diferente.

A melhor coisa lá são as "onion rings". Maravilhosas! Provavelmente as melhores da região e por um preço razoável (na casa dos R$12,00)

This one I ate on Mega Burger in São Bernardo. Not usual, with corn cream and a special sauce.

The best thing there are the onion rings! Amazing, probably the best that you can have around here for a reasonable price (around US$7,00)

Na verdade (e como vc deve saber, sou meio cético) eu tendo a não acreditar em coisas deste tipo mas, de verdade, deve haver algo mais neste dia já que, desde que me dei por gente, dia 2 de novembro é sempre assim... Cinza, chuvoso, triste...

Minha homenagem pública para todos aqueles que não mais estão entre nós, mas seguem em nossos pensamentos e corações.

Holambra - Expoflora

Outro final de semana em Holambra mas desta vez estava na Expoflora.
Este é o evento mais importante da cidade e tenho que dizer, é uma ótima festa! É engraçado pq imaginei que, devido ao nome, flores e coisas afins estariam em todos os expositors MAS (e isso foi surpreendente) não ais que 10% da feira eram flores em exposição. Comida, muito dela, artesanato e até aqueles eltrônicos paraguaios eram vendidos lá, normalmente com algo referente a flores ou a Holanda.
Depois de 5 horas de danças holandesas, comida, música, comida and algumas compras um momento especial: "Chuva de pétalas" - tão bacana que esqueci de fotografar " :-P
Depois disso, show da família Lima... É estranho dizer mas eu gostei! SIM fizeram umas baita versões rock n'roll de músicas clássicas, e versões clássicas de rocks, além de clássicos clássicas - tudo muito bacana e bem humorado. Só estraga a parted as músicas próprias heheheh

Another weekend in Holambra but this time I was in the Expoflora.
This is the most important event for this town and I have to say that this is a really nice party! It's funny cause, due to its name, I'd say that the flowers and other "correlated" things would be in all expositors BUT (and that was a big surprise) not most than 10% of them were selling flowers. Food, a lot of it, handmade things and even those cheap-and-stupid electronic stuff were sold there, usually with something about flowers or Holland.
After 5 hours of Holland's dance, food, music, food and some shopping the special moment: "Petals rain" - a very interesting moment, so nice that I forgot to take a pic :-P
After that a "Lima's Family" show. They're quite famous in Brasil but I never liked them, maybe because they try to make the classical music more popular and some popular music more classical... well, The important thing is that I really liked the show! They're much more "rock n' roll" now having a drum all the time on the stage and doing great versions of classics... Resuming, they have a good combination of drums, violins, guitars and electric guitar and a lot of talent! I do recommend!

Some important tips for you who is going there: (Estou com preguiça, qquer coisa vai no Google e traduz)
1 - The Parque Hotel das Flores is a very nice place, with a reasonable price (US$40 to US$60 a day) and a very nice chat with the owner (I don¿t know if she speaks English, but probably german :-))
2 - Pousada Europa has one of the best restaurants there - Great food in a great place, for a small price (with US$20 you can easily have a dinner for a couple)

Aqui vai uma dica pouco comum de viagem:
Holambra (Essa é a entrada da cidade, vai prá esquerda prá ver o resto (não tem muito prá ver))
Essa é uma cidadezinha no interior de São Paulo com um ambiente legal para quem gosta de paz, sussego, natureza e principalmente FLORES.
Tenho que dizer que, para mim, flores não estão entre os 10 assuntos que mais gosto (talvez não entre os 100) MAS como um cara comprometido tenho que, algumas vezes (e nesse caso, 'algumas vezes' significa SEMPRE! Cuidado solteiros!) seguir ordens da patroa... e desta vez foi um passeio por essa cidade.
Tá, o lugar não era só flores, gostei muito das tradições Holandesas/Alemãs - já que minha família tem influencias alemãs.
Ok, ok, vou falar a verdade! A arquitetura é legal, o lugar é bonito, mas o bom mesmo é a comida! LOL
Como sempre a comida! Um ótimo Kasseler com Chucrute no restaurante "The Old Dutch" :-)

Here goes an unusual travel tip: Holambra (From main city entrance, move to the left to see all the town (not much to see in fact))
This is a small town in Sao Paulo's countryside with a nice environment for people who likes nature, calm places and mainly - FLOWERS.
I have to say that, for me, flowers are not among my 10 first preferred subjects (maybe not among the first 100) BUT as a committed guy, sometimes (in this case, sometimes means ALL THE TIME! Be aware single guys!) I have to follow my girlfriend's direction. And this time was a quick trip to this place.

Ok, the place was not just flowers, and I enjoyed mainly the Holland/German traditions - as my family has some German influences.
Ok, ok, I'll tell the truth! The architecture is fine, the place is beautiful, but the best part was the food! LOL
As always the food. A great Kasseler with Sauerkraut in the Old Dutch restaurant :-)
Recommended! And, if you're a normal person, the plate serves 2 person.

Nem vou me dar ao trabalho de escrever este post em português. Todos já devem estar cansados (como eu) desse papo todo.
Rumo a vida normal (se é que ela existe em Sampa) e em outubro, pense bem na "bobagem" que vai fazer!

Well, this post took me 2 weeks thinking about what should I do for a simple reason, I still believing that we live in a wonderful world (thanks mr Armstrong for your amazing voice!)... Yaeh, all right, of course I know that we have a lot to fix, so many problems and blah, blah, blah, but in here, at least, IN HERE, I tried to create a perfect place, showing the beauties of OUR home, the nice/funny/amazing/curious places that I had the opportunity to know and would like that you, my dear readers, had a chance to know also.
What I'm talking about? The huge mess that Sao Paulo became last week, mainly in 15/may/2006. Dozens of deaths, lots of burnet buses and the panic and caos in our biggest city.....
In fact, I don't want to write about it, but if you want to talk about this, leave a comment with your email and I can contact you about my impressions. All I want to say is that we're way better now and, surely, we will be back to the normal life (if you can call Sao Paulo lifestyle as normal) soon!

O Aeroporto internacional de São Paulo, oficialmente chamado de Aeroporto Internacional Governador André Franco Montoro, normalmente chamado de Aeroporto de guarulhos - pois está na cidade de Guarulhos - e com o apelido de Cumbica - pois foi construído sobre a área da fazenda Cumbica, o mesmo nome do bairro.
Não é um lugar interessante só um aeroporto comum com tudo que um aeroporto ao redor do mundo costuma ter mas algumas cenas só por aqui. Nunca vi cartazes e faixas (e estou falando de cartazes GRAAANDESSSS) prá alguém que está partindo em outros lugares.... tantas risadas e lágrimas, abraços, beijos e dezenas de "até logo".... Claro que vc sempre vê algumas demostrações afetivas e emotivas mas aqui elas parecem muito mais apaixonadas (e está palavra - apaixonada - foi a que um coreano amigo meu usou para descrever os brasileiros quando ele se deparou com os mesmos na copa de 2002) Claro que essa impressão toda pode ter sido motivada pelos meus sentimentos no momento :) Estava lá prá falar tchau prá ela.... Wow, ela está indo para Toronto passar 6 longos meses (ou talvez mais). Esse período não será fácil mas não se compara com minha felicidade vendo vc se dando tão bem rumo ao "Grande Norte".
Boa Sorte a todos nós! Vejo você no fim do ano Cibele! Se cuida e tenha uma boa estada por aí irmãzinha!

Sao Paulo's International Airport, officially called as Governor André Franco Montoro International Airport, usually called as Guarulho's Airport - as it is placed in the city of Guarulhos - and with the funny nickname Cumbica - the airport was built over a farm which was called Cumbica, the same name has all the district.
Not an intersting place, just a regular airport with all the same things that you have in all airports around the world but some scenes I just saw in here. Never saw banners and signs (I mean, BIG, HUUUGEE banners and signs) for someone leaving... so many laughts and tears, hugs, kisses, tons of goodbyes.... Of course you see some "emotive and affectional demonstrations" but in here they seems to be much more passionate (this word was used by a Korean friend to describe brazilians that we first met in 2002 worldcup) Of course that this could be motivated by my feelings at that moment :) I was there to see her off.... Wow, she will be in Toronto for long 6 months (or maybe, more). This tiem wil be hard, but nothing compared to the hapinness, seing that you're doing great in the "big north".

This time I was in Buenos Aires... such a lovely place, great people, huge culture and a great gastronomy!
For me this one of the best things about the trip and the picture that I wass about to put was from a "Bife de Chorizo" but someone would say that this is a "Foodaholic blog" so I decided to show the historical places... by now just a pic without a subtitle as I really can't remember the name of this building :-P (sorry)

Guys, these days are being really busy! I have to study a lot of different topics and.... Well I promissed that this wouldn't be a nerd blog so I will not start talking about PMP, CMMI and other acronyms.
Maaannnn we had the Carnival in february and I didn't write a single line about it! Damn it! I'm a really bad blogger, I know but now goes some lines about it.

My manager defined in this way: "A period for the women go to the streets barely naked and to everyone do what we heard that we shouldn't do". " LOL
I think that this is the funniest definition that I've ever heard (and it's "almost" true), but talking seriously some interstingthing that I heard is about the common comparison to the Mardi Gras. Ok, both are similiar in essence BUT really ddifferent in scale - Mardi Gras is about hundreds and Brazilian carnival is about thousands, somethimes millions of people (like in Galo da Madrugada block). Well, the most important is that I had a 2 days and a half holidays plus a weekend at the beach! Almost a vacation :-P

Avenida Paulista

Fazia um tempão que não andava por este lugar. A av Paulista é algo estranho mesmo! Aqui vc encontra todo tipo de coisa, das mais luxuosas até as mais simples.
Como sempre eu estava esperando o ônibus quando lembrei de tirar a foto (quase esqueço), e é por isso que ela não ficou tão boa (baita desculpa!=P).
Se você vier prá Sampa esse é o local a ser visitado! Prá mim o mais legal é o MASP. Aquele prédio suspenso por 4 pilares é algo fantástico! Lina Bo Bardi é a responsável pelo feito!
Além disso algumas boas lojas de livro e prédios históricos (até o Mc Donalds é em um deles) mas tem um algo mais nesse lugar... E eu não sei explicar.
Talvez pq essa avenida é uma sintese daquilo que Sampa é.... uma grande mistura de art, prostituição, cultura, pobreza, trabalho, beleza e feiura... tudo em uma avenida e áreas adjaventes.

Long time since my last walk around this place. The Paulista avenue is really strange! You can find any kind of thing in there, from a luxurious to the most simpler things.
As always I was waitting for a bus when I remebered to take this pic (that's why the girl is "pointing in the air"), that's why it's not so good (what a great excuse, eh? =P).
If you come to Sao Paulo this is a place to visit! For me the best point is MASP (Art museum of Sao Paulo). This building suspendend by 4 pillars is something amazing! Lina Bo Bardi(sorry, it's just in portuguese) is the responsible for that (remembering my good times of "wannabe an architect")
Some good book stores and historical buildings (even the Mc Donalds is in one of that) but there's something more in this place... and I just can't explain.
Probably because this place is a syntesis of what Sao Paulo is... a great mix of art, prostituion, culture, poverty, work, good, bad, beauty and ugly... everything in an avenue and surronding areas.

Ps: antes que alguém diga, não, nunca me preocupei na perfeita tradução dos tópicos e agora me preocupo menos ainda, por isso estão tão diferentes.
Before someone raise a hand to say: NO, I was never interested in having a perfect translation of those topics and now I'm even less interested, that's why you can see huge diferences.
In fact my main concern is about the content, if you can or can not understand what I'm trying to say... And of course I'm really worried about my english skills.
And also, I'm sure that most of you 2 portuguese-speaking-readers who can see the differences are always reading even the english parts(in my opinion, lately those are better than the portuguese ones).

Veeery good, sometimes bad things can help you... like now, 8:30 AM and I'm writting in here.... due to a problem in one of the systems I had to wake up at 7 AM... in a SUNDAY ... That's inhuman! :-)
This picture I took yesterday in downtown (Sao Paulo). This is a strange place, lots of porn movies side-by-side with cosmetic stories. But as always the best part is the street artists, I have to research a little bit and see if I can find any information about this kind of thing... here we call as (something like) "wood made leg" (very creative :-P) and I have no idea if this is common in any other country.


Ps: I think it's time to buy a new mobile... Lately the pictures are not so clear.

Tenho certeza que o cara está perguntando isso... Essa é uma clara demonstração do nosso "jeitinho".
Essa bela foto foi tirada em Piedade, uma cidade a 100km de São Paulo e famosa pela sua produção de cebolas(?! bleagrh). Nos arredores você também pode encontrar alguns lugares interessantes como São Roque com seus bons vinhos (on, não para um enólogo mas eu gosto :)) e uma das coisas mais divertidas por aqui:
Uma "montanha de plástico" para esquiar. Não é a mesma coisa que a neve de verdade (E dá uma saudade disso) mas é legal, exceto pelos machucados (não é tão macio quanto a neve) e o sabão (o plástico não é tão liso e precisa duma ajudinha) mas eu recomendo a experiência!

I'm sure that this guy is asking that.... I would say that this is a clear demonstration of our "jeitinho" - the translation could be something like "brazilian way of turning things easier no matters the consequences" (much easier saying just "jeitinho") .
This awsome image wa caught in Piedade (I shouldn't do that but it's stronger than me... Piedade means "mercy"), a city 100km far from Sao Paulo and famous by the production of Onions (blergh). Near by this town we also find some intersting places like Sao Roque with this nice wines (ok, not so good to an oenologists but I like it :)) and one of the funniest things in here:
A "plastic mountain" for sking. It's not the same thing as the real snow (And I really miss that) but it's good, except from the part of the bruises (it's not so soft) and the foam (the plastic is not so slippery and it needs a little help) but I do recomend the experience!

Miami!

Como sempre estou meio atrasado, eu sei... mas quem se importa? :-P
Conforme comentei no post anterior minha última parada antes de vir para o Brasil foi Miami!
Este é um lugar maravilhoso, cercado pela natureza (e algumas vezes uma natureza artificial) e um sol fantástico.
Fiquei hospedado no Days Inn do centro médico, uma ótima localização, perto do Bayside, South beach e downtown mas não um bom lugar para ficar. O quarto simplesmente fedia, o chão parecia úmido e as toalhas não estavam tão limpas.... nojento. A única coisa que me deixava feliz era a conta... o hotel mais barato da região. A coisa mais legal da cidade é a língua! Se você não fala inglês não é um problema mas, se você não entende espanhol é impossível! LOL
Eu ouvi diversas vezes "I not speak English (sic). ¿Hablas español?" e sempre, como um grande entendedor do português que (acha que) entende espanhol eu começava a conversar.
Por fim foi uma grande experiência. Um grande passeio e principalemente, minha primeira experiência trabalhando no exterior :-)

As I mentioned in the last post, my final stop before Brazil was Miami!
In fact this is a beautiful place, surrounded by the nature (and sometimes an artificial nature) and a shinny sun.
I was hosted in the Days Inn at the medical center, a very nice location, near to Bayside, South Beach and downtown but not a good place to stay. The room simply stinks, the floor seems to be wet and the towels weren't so clean.... disgusting. The only thing that made me happy there was the check ... the cheapest inn in the region. The funniest part in this city was about the language! If you don¿t speak English it¿s not a big deal but, if can¿t understand Spanish is just impossible! LOL
I heard this several times "I not speak English (sic).¿Hablas español?" and always, as a great Portuguese speaker that (thinks) understand spanish I used to start the conversation.
At the end this was a great experience. A great trip and mainly, my first experience working abroad :-)
